Online Collaboration
Internet Solutions (IS) is taking online collaboration in South Africa to the next level with the launch of Cisco® WebEx, a unified conferencing and content sharing collaboration tool. WebEx combines real-time desktop sharing with phone conferencing, allowing everyone to view the same content during a conference call. “The partnership between Cisco WebEx and IS addresses the challenges that many CIO’s in South Africa face today with end users in the workplace -  whether they want them to or not, people are going to get online tools and bring them into the workplace environment. What Cisco WebEx brings to the marketplace is the ability for a CIO to allow end users to do this, but in a way that's as complimentary and secure as possible, to ensure the company assets don't become public property,” commented Ismael Hassa, director WebEx Operations, Cisco Emerging Markets.

Cisco WebEx can also eliminate the need for people to travel and meet on site. A single subscription user (the WebEx host) is able to communicate and share content with anyone in the world who has an internet connection, with participants utilising the service by connecting to the WebEx Web Conference without the need for a subscription. It is the ultimate collaboration tool, which works seamlessly and securely across corporate network boundaries. Delivered across the cloud as a utility based service, WebEx only requires an internet connection and browser to work.

“Other than enabling online meetings we also see the application of this technology extending into online education and training, the legal profession, as well as enabling call centres to deliver remote support,” said Hayden Lamberti, Application Solutions business unit manager at IS.  “This reduces costs, increases reach and improves productivity. Cost reduction comes from the decreased need to travel to on-site business meetings, when utilising WebEx, which also saves time, increases the speed at which business is done and has a positive impact on the environment as travel is reduced.”

WebEx uses a worldwide managed audio network to deliver the voice component of the conferencing functionality, which means each country has a local toll free or toll number that the meeting participants can dial into. The functionality that WebEx offers will provide any organization, from banks to schools, with a more productive and cost effective manner to collaborate online. With over 200,000 daily WebEx meetings globally and over 10 million individual participants each month, WebEx is already the global standard in web conferencing, and it is now available to the South African market through Internet Solutions.
